Last Tuesday, the Public Works Department received its first frozen water line report of the season. Public Works was able to thaw the water line and restore service to the resident.
Due to low temperatures, the potential for freezing pipes is there for all residents. Here are some tips to help prevent your lines from freezing when temperatures drop to extreme lows:
- Keep the temperature in your home at 68 degrees or higher, even during times you won't be home.
- Allow a faucet to drip slightly (lukewarm water) in order to minimize the chance of freezing.
- Disconnect all gardening hoses and install covers on all outside faucets.
- Open cabinet doors below sinks to allow heat form the home to circulate.
