The Village of Park Forest hosts the annual Ice Cream Social and Line Dancing event this Saturday. Presented by the Commission on Human Relations, the event will run from 12 p.m. until 3 p.m. with something for everyone.
Evelyn Randle, the staff liaison, said the free event will have ice cream on deck for the first 200 people and activities for kids.
"Besides the ice cream, there will be a few vendors. However, we are focused more on socializing with the residents," Randall said. "We will have a line dance instructor present for more engagement and fun for the kids."
Randall added Ice Cream Social and Line Dancing is a smaller event leading to their bigger game night on Saturday, Aug. 26, Night on the Town. She said they have several events that they only market to Park Forest residents to enjoy, and these two are a few.
All year, Randall and others have organized several events to engage the community. She said it is essential for residents to take advantage of these events to get to know their community.
"The Commission and I believe that the more the community interacts, the better," Randall said. "Not only to know their neighbors, but create a sense of community where they feel comfortable experiencing where they live to the fullest."
Randall continued, "The more comfortable a resident feels engaging in their community, the more they want to give back. They feel accepted, welcome, and at ease interacting with others, coming to and from home, and the potential to welcome others in their family and friend circle to the community."
The Ice Cream Social and Line Dancing will happen on the Village Green, 349 Main Street, from 12 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 15.
