The Village of Park Forest is hosting a Public Information Meeting to discuss the proposed improvements to the Westwood Drive/26th Street Shared-Use Bike Path.

This meeting is open to everyone and will be held on May 29 at Village Hall, 350 Victory Drive, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The goal of the meeting is to extend the path within the Village limits of Cook County, running from Norwood Boulevard to Allegheny Street.

Department of Public Works Assistant Director Nick Christie mentioned that the bike path is part of a bigger construction plan to extend a bike path along Forest Boulevard when it is reconstructed and attract more bike traffic to DownTown. He said that in the past year, the Village has secured $3.7 million in Federal Surface Transportation funds for the reconstruction of Westwood Drive and $3 million in Illinois Enhancement Program funds to do the same to Forest Boulevard.

Christie also stated that Village officials would attend the meeting to answer residents' questions about the project. They will discuss the requirements for the proposed bike trail, right-of-way acquisition, and the tentative construction schedule.

During the meeting, preliminary reports, including environmental documents and an engineering analysis with drawings, maps, and aerial photography, will be available for inspection and viewing.

If anyone has any questions about the meeting or needs to make special accommodations, they can contact Christie for more information via email at nchristie@vopf.com or by phone at 708-283-5644.
