The Village of Park Forest formally recognized Blake-Lamb Funeral Home last night for its compassion and generosity during one of the community’s most difficult moments.

During Tuesday night's board meeting, Mayor Joseph A. Woods presented a proclamation to the Oak Lawn–based funeral home expressing gratitude for covering the funeral expenses of Park Forest Police Officer Tim Jones, who died in the line of duty on Dec. 3. Woods said the gesture eased the burden on Officer Jones’ family and ensured he was laid to rest with dignity and honor.

“On behalf of the Village of Park Forest, we are profoundly grateful for the compassion and humanity Blake-Lamb Funeral Home showed to our community in our hour of profound grief,” Woods said. “Their generosity honored Officer Jones’ ultimate sacrifice and showed what it truly means to embrace and comfort a community in its darkest hours.”

Officer Jones’ passing marked the end of a nearly decade-long fight following a 2016 line-of-duty shooting that left him paralyzed. Throughout his recovery, Jones became a symbol of perseverance and resilience, inspiring fellow officers and residents alike through his courage and determination. His impact on the community has been honored in several ways, including the naming of “Honorary Officer Tim Jones Way” and the establishment of a fitness award in his name at the police academy.

Village officials said the depth of Jones’ connection to Park Forest made Blake-Lamb Funeral Home’s gesture especially meaningful. By covering the funeral expenses, the funeral home provided critical support to Jones’ family and stood in solidarity with the Park Forest Police Department during a time of profound loss.

Founded in 1961 by M.J. Lamb and his sons, Matt Jr. and Richard, Blake-Lamb Funeral Home continues a family legacy in funeral service dating back to 1880, when the Blake family established its roots in Chicago. The funeral home has long been recognized for its professionalism and commitment to service, earning national recognition shortly after its founding.

The proclamation described Blake-Lamb’s actions as a reflection of the highest values of community service, empathy, and respect for those who dedicate their lives to protecting others.

The Village also used the proclamation to honor Officer Jones’ life, service, and sacrifice, noting his lasting impact on the safety and well-being of Park Forest.

“This proclamation is a small token of our appreciation,” Woods said. “Blake-Lamb Funeral Home’s actions, and Officer Jones’ service, will not be forgotten by this Village.”

The proclamation was formally adopted by the Park Forest Board of Trustees as part of last night’s meeting.
