It's that time of year again. Residents across Park Forest will get an opportunity to do some "spring cleaning" this fall during the village-wide garage sale on the last weekend of September.
James Guirguis, the village's communication specialist, is spearheading this year's event. He says not only will people get a chance to clean out the clutter in their houses, but the garage sale will also bring the community closer together.
"It's a great community event that allows people to come in from out of town and interact with people," Guirguis said. "I think it allows people who aren't necessarily participating to go out of their houses and venture into the neighborhoods, that they don't normally venture into. Or venture over to a neighbor that they don't normally talk to and get a different perspective from another Park Forest resident."
Guirguis says the annual event typically happens in September because the month is known for its favorable weather. He says people can enjoy the community and buy some unique items and not worry about it being too hot or too cold.
"September is a great month for people to be able to sit down in their yards where it's not too blazing hot, and it's not too cold, and enjoy the day," Guirguis said. "And, they can enjoy interacting with fellow residents and enjoy interacting with people who may be out of town and coming into town participating as buyers in the village-wide garage sale."
If you're thinking about participating in the garage sale, which is taking place Sept. 24-25., Guirguis says there is still time to register. He says so far there are over 90 participants who have signed up.
"So, registration is open until Sept. 14, and it will close at midnight," said Guirguis. " Even if you are not registered, you can still participate."
Guirguis says it is important for residents to register for the village-wide garage sale, so they can be added to the map. The map shows buyers where the various garage sales are happening across the village.
