The Village of Park Forest will celebrate Pride Month with an LGBTQI+ Brunch, Drag and Fashion Show on Saturday, June 7, at Dining on the Green, 349 Main St.
The free event begins at 10 a.m. and aims to honor the contributions and culture of the LGBTQI+ community while promoting inclusivity and awareness. Attendees are encouraged to register in advance.
Pride Month, celebrated annually in June, commemorates the 1969 Stonewall uprising in New York City. The month recognizes the impact of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex individuals on history, while also remembering those lost to anti-LGBTQI+ violence and the AIDS crisis.
Community Relations Manager Evelyn Randle said the village has hosted similar events in the past to highlight and celebrate every part of the community.
“We want everyone in Park Forest to know they matter,” Randle said. “Our LGBTQI+ Brunch, Drag and Fashion Show is another example of that. We’re asking the community to come out, support the event and be educated about others who live in our community.”
Brunch will include a variety of options, such as pancakes, eggs, bacon, and chicken and waffles, along with beverage choices. Scheduled performers include Tahlia, Aris, Taco and Candi, who are known for their talents in drag and fashion entertainment.
The event is open to the public and welcomes people of all ages and backgrounds.
