Park Forest sends letter to residents on Sauk Trail regarding Cook County's bike lane proposal

Village of Park Forest - Administration News Posted on October 08, 2024

The Village of Park Forest is sending letters to residents who live along Sauk Trail ahead of the Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways' virtual meeting.

The upcoming meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 6 p.m., will cover the Sauk Trail All Modes Feasibility Study. This study includes a proposed bike trail from Central Avenue to Western Avenue and the review of existing conditions and potential safety improvements to Sauk Trail in the villages of Richton Park and Park Forest.

Other improvements include reducing the vehicular travel lane width to encourage maintaining posted speed limits, improving pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure, including high-visibility crossings, improving signal timing to allow enough time for vulnerable road users to cross, improving sidewalks, or developing a multi-use sidepath to improve overall connectivity and safety for all corridor users.

The Village wants to ensure residents are informed so they can attend this public meeting, which will be held via Zoom, to learn more about this project and provide feedback. Residents can participate in the virtual public meeting by clicking here

An open comment period, which ends on Oct. 30, is currently underway. Those wishing to provide feedback, or interested in asking questions, prior to the Oct. 22 meeting can do so by emailing joseph.seymour@cookcountyil.gov.
