The Village of Park Forest hosts a Safe Halloween event DownTown on Saturday, Oct 28.
Parents are encouraged to bring their children out to participate in the various events and activities. DownTown Property Manager Heather Jones said there's so much to do for all ages.
"The Farmer's Market will be extending their day to 1 p.m.," Jones said. "We have over 30 businesses participating in trick-or-treating, face painting, yard games, and Trunk or Treat. Kids will get to see and touch a police car, fire truck, tow truck, and much more."
Jones said they're holding a costume photo contest and a best-decorated car contest. She said the goal of Safe Halloween is to bring the community together.
"The Park Forest DownTown trick-or-treating acts as a means for interaction between friends and neighbors," Jones said. "They can engage in friendly conversations and celebrate together while walking door-to-door, business-to-business, ultimately creating a strong sense of community while doing so in a lit and safe environment."
Jones added that the event is DownTown, which will allow residents to explore the new businesses in town.
"Sometimes people don't realize we have a lot going on in DownTown Park Forest," Jones said. "So, while people are out and about, they'll see what we have locally and hopefully do business right here in the Village."
Jones noted there will be food trucks in DownTown Park Forest for the event. She said there would be plenty of candy for the kids and called on everyone in the Village to support the event.
Safe Halloween is next Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in DownTown Park Forest.
