The Village of Park Forest, in collaboration with the Park Forest Veterans Commission, will host a special Veterans Day event called “Wheels of Honor” on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2025.
This event will feature a ceremonial motorcycle ride through parts of the Chicago southland, along with remarks from local leaders and a moment of reflection to honor those who have served in the Armed Forces. The ride will conclude at the Park Forest American Legion Post 1198, where attendees can enjoy a catered meal, participate in raffles, and engage in post-ride activities.
Organizers said that the event aims to unite families, veterans’ organizations, and residents while recognizing the resilience, service, and sacrifice of military veterans throughout the region. The Park Forest Veterans Commission, a volunteer-led organization, is spearheading this effort. The commission addresses issues affecting the quality of life for veterans, makes recommendations to local officials, and coordinates programs for veterans. It also runs initiatives like the Veterans Closet, which provides essentials, and offers benefits assistance to connect veterans with available resources.
“This is about honoring those who served and reminding our community of the stories and sacrifices that shape us,” stated the commission.
To sustain and expand its services, including future events like Wheels of Honor, the commission is currently raising funds through a GoFundMe campaign. Contributions will support outreach programs, direct assistance for veterans, and efforts to ensure that Park Forest remains a welcoming community for servicemen and women. The campaign can be accessed online.
Motorcyclists wishing to participate in Wheels of Honor must pre-register and complete a release of liability form. Registration materials can be picked up at the Park Forest Village Hall between 8:00 and 8:45 a.m. on the day of the event. The ride will start at 9:00 a.m., escorted by the Park Forest Police Department, and will include stops at several American Legion posts before concluding at Post 1198 on Western Avenue.
Restrooms and vending machines will be available at Village Hall before the ride. Alcohol is prohibited until the caravan concludes at Post 1198. Once there, participants can enjoy a meal and access raffles, slot machines, pool tables, and music.
Online registration is also available; however, to avoid convenience fees, participants can call the Park Forest Recreation, Parks, and Community Health Department at 708-748-2005.
