Park Forest Police Department (PFPD) Social Media Comment Policy
The Park Forest Police Department (PFPD) maintains official social media pages as a public service to inform and engage with the community. These pages are limited public forums. We welcome public comments and discussions, but to maintain a productive and safe environment, we enforce the following content guidelines:
Content Subject to Removal
Comments or posts may be removed only if they fall into one or more of the following categories, which are consistent with legal limitations on protected speech:
1. Incitement to Violence or Illegal Activity: Content that incites violence, promotes illegal acts, or encourages conduct in violation of any federal, state, or local law.
2. True Threats: Threats of physical harm or violence directed toward any individual or group.
3. Obscenity or Legally Defined Pornography: Content that meets the legal definition of obscenity, as established by the U.S. Supreme Court.
4. Unlawful Disclosure of Personal Identifying Information: Content that discloses someone else's confidential personal information (e.g., Social Security number, home address, phone number), unless allowed under the Freedom of Information Act.
5. Compromise of Ongoing Investigations: Comments containing sensitive information could compromise an active law enforcement investigation or legal proceeding.
6. Commercial Spam or Unsolicited Advertising: Repeated posting of commercial messages unrelated to the topic of discussion, including advertisements for products, services, or events not affiliated with or endorsed by the PFPD.
7. Infringement of Intellectual Property: Content that violates any party's copyrights, trademarks, or other proprietary rights.
8. Disruption of Platform Functionality: Repetitive, irrelevant, or excessively long posts that significantly disrupt the ability of others to engage in meaningful discussion.
Account Restrictions
Users who repeatedly violate these guidelines after receiving prior warnings, or who post serious threats or illegal content, may be temporarily restricted or banned from further commenting when necessary to protect the forum and public safety. Banning will not be based on the user's viewpoint.
Privacy and Safety Reminder
To help protect the privacy and safety of our officers and their families, we request that community members avoid "tagging" or linking to the personal social media accounts of PFPD personnel in comments or posts.
