[ARCHIVED] Frozen underground pipes leaving some without water

Officials in Park Forest are aware of several homes in town that have no water service due to frozen pipes. Many other towns throughout the region are hearing similar reports, and numbers may continue to go up before they go down with temperatures expected to drop below freezing again this weekend.

In spite of warmer temperatures today, the ground remains frozen and will take many days of consistently warmer temperatures to thaw.

Village staff members are working to find ways to help restore service as quickly as possible to several homes without water due to the freeze. Possible solutions to these frozen pipe issues have no guarantees.

All residents are encouraged to allow a slow drip of water to run in your home to try to prevent pipes from freezing.

Due to the complexity of this issue, Village officials may ask residents with water service for their permission to run a hose to a nearby home without water service as a short-term solution. In these cases, the Village will reimburse residents in full for the water they provide to a neighbor.
