[ARCHIVED] Park Forest Police Department offers $200 rebates via Private Security Camera Incentive Program

Camera program nf size

The Park Forest Police Department is offering a rebate of up to $200 to those who install a forward-facing security camera on their property through the Private Security Camera Incentive Program.

Under the program, which was launched in April and recently extended, individuals, businesses, or nonprofits can apply with the Park Forest Police Department to receive a rebate of up to $200 to offset the cost of one forward-facing security camera on the applicant's property. Those who are interested can apply by clicking here.

Park Forest Police Chief Brian Rzyski stated that the program is designed to prevent crime without infringing on anyone's privacy.

"So far, 20 residents have signed up for this program," Rzyski said. "We hope that more Park Foresters will be interested in joining the program to assist us in protecting and serving the community."

Rzyski reiterated his department will not have access to live video from the cameras. He said they would collect, disseminate, and use the footage for official law enforcement purposes only.

The Park Forest Police Department originally set aside $20,000 for the program last year, which ended in June. Now, the program has been extended, and an additional $20,000 is available to support it. The program will continue until June 2025 or until the funding runs out.

Interested parties must complete the program application and provide proof of security camera purchase within 90 days of submitting it. Rzyski said applicants can then purchase their security camera and do not have to wait for a response or approval. However, participants must submit the camera's make, model, and serial number and verify that the camera is installed.

A Park Forest Police officer will verify any camera a resident or business owner installed.
