The Village of Park Forest announces the kickoff of Earth Month this year with its Annual Community Clean-Up, scheduled for April 5 at 9 a.m. This annual event aims to engage community members in maintaining the beauty of the Village.
Sustainability Coordinator Carrie Malfeo emphasized the importance of this initiative, noting that volunteers will meet at Village Hall, located at 350 Victory Drive, to receive their assignments, supplies, and essential safety gear such as gloves and trash bags.
“With the arrival of warmer weather and the absence of snow on the ground, areas of litter have become visible throughout our neighborhoods and parks,” Malfeo explained.
“As the seasons change and the wind continues to disperse litter, April is an ideal time for us to unite and keep our beautiful community clean,” Malfeo added. “By participating in the clean-up, we aim not only to improve the environment but also to foster community pride and a sense of collective responsibility. Together, we can effectively remove litter and debris, enhancing our public spaces for everyone to enjoy.”
To encourage participation, Malfeo mentioned that individuals interested in volunteering can sign up by clicking here or by scanning the QR code featured on promotional flyers distributed throughout the community. For those who prefer to register by phone or have questions, the Sustainability Office can be reached at 708-503-8153.
The Annual Community Clean-Up is just one of many events that the Sustainability Office and the Park Forest Environment Commission will host in April to promote environmental stewardship and community involvement.
The commission will also hold the 4th Annual Southland Local Food System Expo at Dining on the Green on Saturday, April 19, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. To conclude the month, they will organize the Annual Spring Shred and Drug Takeback event on Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. This event will take place in the parking lot at Forest and Lakewood.
