Park Forest residents invited to weigh in on regional transit blueprint

Village of Park Forest - Economic Development & Planning News Posted on August 26, 2025

The Village of Park Forest and the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning are asking residents to complete a questionnaire that will help shape the 2026 Regional Transportation Plan. The survey seeks information on how people travel in northeastern Illinois and what changes they would like to see in the transportation system.

The Regional Transportation Plan, developed by CMAP with input from local governments, transit agencies and community groups, will guide transportation policy and investment for the next 20 to 30 years. It will combine technical research, policy reviews, and public feedback, with adoption scheduled for fall 2026.

Responses to the questionnaire will provide information about the types of transportation residents want to use, the problems they encounter, and how improvements should be carried out. CMAP has stated that community participation will influence planning decisions for roads, public transit, bicycle networks and pedestrian access.

Earlier phases of the planning process included a review of nearly 30 transportation plans prepared by municipal, regional, and state agencies. That review allowed CMAP to establish a foundation for identifying regional priorities and aligning them with local goals.

The survey will remain open throughout 2025. Officials say collecting input over an extended period allows more residents, commuters, and workers to contribute to the planning process. CMAP is also offering to attend meetings or community events to provide more details about the plan and answer questions.

The questionnaire takes about ten minutes to complete. Residents who live, work or travel in northeastern Illinois, including those in Park Forest, are invited to participate.
