Organizers call on community to support the Park Forest Main Street Market

This year, the Park Forest Main Street Market is celebrating its 52nd season, and event organizers are encouraging the community to show their support.

Market Manager Donnica Gordon, now in her second year in this role, aims to continue the market's growth. She announced that several vendors from last year, including Yard-N-Farm and Tulip Tree Gardens, will return with their organic, locally grown produce. Gordon highlighted the importance of providing a venue where the community can purchase fresh food right in the Village.

"The Main Street Market is vital to Park Forest as a central hub for access to affordable, fresh, locally grown foods that are largely free of harmful chemicals and additives," said Gordon. "The market vendors often provide information on healthy eating and educate our patrons on ways to enhance their well-being."

Gordon noted that the market offers multiple benefits, including support for local small business owners, improved access to fresh and healthy food, hand-crafted goods, and fostering social connections within the community. The market provides local farmers and growers with a direct outlet for their produce and products, helping them sustain their businesses and preserve local farmland.

"We feature locally and regionally grown produce, along with artisanal, small-batch, home-cooked foods that are both delicious and nutritious," Gordon added.

In addition to fresh vegetables, fruits, and grains, the market will also offer fresh flowers and plants. Gordon mentioned several special events are planned, including the official season opener on June 7, which will feature live music and entertainment. Additionally, the Recreation, Parks & Community Health Department is hosting the "Thrive! Safe Summer Kick-Off," which focuses on community health. This event will include HIV testing, health screenings, safety education, and family-friendly activities at the Main Street Market.

Currently, the Main Street Market has 10 vendors, and Gordon noted that they are still processing applications from potential participants. She expressed her desire for new vendors and is particularly interested in seeing a robust presence of food trucks. Those who are interested in becoming a vendor can call Gordon directly at 630-921-9719.
