The Village of Park Forest is hosting its upcoming biennial Village-wide Garage Sale, which will take place on Sept 21-22. Residents are encouraged to participate in this community event by registering to be a part of the sale.
The registration link is now live and will remain open until the end of August. According to Communications Specialist James Guirguis, residents have shown significant interest and anticipation regarding the village-wide garage sale, and he is thrilled to be organizing the event again.
"Hosting the Village-wide Garage Sale is a great way to kick off the fall season," Guirguis said. We decided to have the sale during the Park Forest Art Fair to attract more people to town."
Guirguis emphasized that the Tall Grass Arts Association is hosting its 68th-anniversary art fair at the same time as the Village-wide Garage Sale. He mentioned that the Village aims to increase awareness of both events by promoting them through different channels, including billboard signs, local newspaper advertisements, and social media platforms such as Facebook.
Additionally, a dedicated website contains a map and a list of all the participants' addresses.
Guirguis mentioned that the Village is providing a special incentive for early registrations, with registration open all month.
"We're providing the first 100 residents who register with green and white garage sale signs," Guirguis said. With this happening on such a busy weekend, we're doing everything possible to have as many residents participate this year."
Guirguis said the Village-wide Garage Sale will run both Saturday and Sunday. However, participants can do it for the entire weekend or just one day. It'll run from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. He said there are a few rules he wants to remind people of as they gear up for the event.
"Your garage sale must abide by Village ordinance, which means you cannot exceed the maximum number of days for garage sales," Guirguis said. You cannot block the right of way, such as sidewalks and parking lot entrances, with tables or other items from your sale."
Guirguis continued, "You cannot advertise your garage sale with signage posted at busy intersections in town; you can only do so by placing a sign in your yard. Additionally, do not allow people access to your homes; all items you are hoping to sell must be in your driveway or in your yard visible from street view."
This year is Guirguis' second time hosting the Village-wide Garage Sale. He said in 2022, there were over 130 participating addresses.
