The Park Forest Police reported two impaired driving arrests and 57 citations during the St. Patrick’s Day enforcement campaign, March 13–23.
According to police, citations included three seat belt violations, one child restraint violation, and 21 speeding offenses. Officers also issued 32 citations for other traffic-related violations and made three arrests related to licensing violations or restrictions.
“We strongly enforce traffic laws for one reason—to save lives,” Deputy Chief Kristopher Vallow said in a statement. “Whether it’s alcohol, cannabis, or another drug, impaired driving puts everyone at risk.”
The enforcement effort was part of the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Drive High. Get a DUI” campaigns. The Park Forest Police Department partnered with state and local law enforcement agencies and highway safety officials to increase patrols and promote safe driving during the holiday period.
The initiative was funded through federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
The enforcement results reflect a broader trend: the department is seeing a significant year-over-year increase in DUI arrests. For instance, in 2025, Park Forest police recorded 140 DUI arrests, marking a 59% increase from 88 arrests in 2024. This figure is also more than double the 56 arrests reported in 2023, representing the highest total in department history.
Police officials have expressed the importance of planning ahead, including using designated drivers or rideshare services, especially during holidays and high-risk periods.
Authorities said enforcement will remain ongoing year-round to help reduce impaired driving and improve road safety.
