Park Forest Art Fair returns for 64th year, features Music Fest and Plaque Dedication

Park Forest Art Fair 2019

The 64th Annual Park Forest Art Fair takes place on Saturday, Sept. 21 and Sunday, Sept. 22, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days. 

The Park Forest Art Fair is the second oldest juried art fair in the Chicago area. The finest artists in the Midwest show a variety of artworks including paintings, prints, photographs, ceramics, glass, wood, sculpture and fiber arts. The fair includes activities for children along with a Music Fest sponsored by the Village of Park Forest.

Admission to the Park Forest Art Fair and the Main Street Music Fest is free. 

Music Fest acts include:

Saturday, September 21

Rhythm System at 10:45 a.m. 
Selections from a teenage three-member Blues, R&B, and Neo-soul group.

The Typhanie Monique/Neal Alger Quartet at 12 p.m.
Jazz classics and R&B, cover and original selections.

The Raices/Latin Jazz Sextet at 1:30 p.m. 
Old school Latin jazz inspired by the music of legendary jazz masters Cal Tjader, Tito Puente, Dizzy Gillespie, and Eddie Palmieri.

KO Bossy at 4 p.m. 
Hits from Badfinger, The Beatles, Black Eyed Peas, Bon Jovi, Bryan Adams, Zeppelin & ZZ Top, Al Green, Earth, Wind & Fire, Stevie Wonder, Chicago, and Steeley Dan.

Sunday, SMusic Fest eptember 22

Patchouli at 10 a.m.  to 4 p.m.

Plaque Dedication Honors Local Pioneers in the Arts

A dedication ceremony will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 3 p.m. during the Park Forest Art Fair to honor two Park Foresters who made a significant contribution to the performing arts.

Etel Billig was an actress and director; her career spanned more than 60 years. She founded Park Forest's Illinois Theatre Center in 1976 with her husband, Steven. She appeared in or directed over 120 productions at ITC over three decades.

Kim Thayil is a musician best known as the lead guitarist of the Seattle-based rock band Soundgarden, which he co-founded with singer Chris Cornell and bassist Hiro Yamamoto in 1984. Thayil was named the 100th greatest guitarist of all time by Rolling Stone in 2010 and the 67th greatest guitarist of all time by SPIN in 2012.

The ceremony will be held in downtown Park Forest along Artists Walk (just east of Village Hall, 350 Victory Drive). The two plaques will be displayed alongside plaques honoring Dawn Upshaw and Art Hodes. A reception for attendees will be held following the ceremony at Theater 47, 371 Artists Walk.
