Village Street SweepingKeeping Park Forest Beautiful!
Every year, The Public Works Department contracts 5 Village wide sweeps, 2 Village parking lot sweeps, 3 commercial area sweeps, and 2 Old Plank Road bike trail sweeps with our Contractor. Dates for Village wide sweeps vary on an as need basis.
The street sweeper begins with the North part of town and works its way South. The streets cleaned each day are approximate depending on the amount of leaves and/or debris that needs to be cleaned up.
During the week of a Village wide sweep, the street sweeper will stop and complete the multi-family areas of the Village: Areas A, E, J, B, Cedarwood and the condo areas: The Arboretum, Glen Arbor, Twin Arbor, and the Thorn Creek Townhomes. When the multi-family areas are finished, the street sweeper will resume the Village wide sweep.
The Street Sweeper works from approximately 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
We ask residents to please move their cars off the street during the week of street sweeping in order to clean as effectively as possible. Residents should refer to the Village website, Channel 4 local broadcast station, or tune into 8 o'clock Monday night Village Board meetings for announcements of Street Sweeping dates.
Residents are to be reminded that raking or blowing leaves into the street is strictly prohibited by law. The Village Ordinance prohibits this because the leaves then clog the Village Storm Sewer system resulting in flooded streets around your homes.
Leaves can be disposed of through the existing yard waste program with Star Disposal yard waste bags available at the Village Hall, Steger True Value, or the Star Disposal Office for $2.75 each. Or residents can use other non-Star Disposal yard waste bags with Star Disposal yard waste stickers placed on them. Yard waste stickers for non-Star Disposal bags can be purchased for $2.25 each at Village Hall or the Star Disposal Office. Yard waste stickers must be affixed to all non-Star Disposal 30-Gallon biodegradable Kraft paper yard waste bags.
The yard waste collection season runs from April through November. Bags can be put out at curbside on your regular garbage day.
