Police investigating fatal shooting

The Park Forest Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in the evening hours of Wednesday, August 19, 2015.

At approximately 9:10 p.m., Park Forest Police were dispatched to the 200 block of Allegheny St. in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, responding officers found a 24-year-old male subject to have been shot. The victim was rushed to St. James Hospital in Chicago Heights by Park Forest paramedics, but was later pronounced dead. Identification of the victim is being withheld pending notification of the family. Information was learned that the victim had been standing outside of a residence when he was shot by someone from a moving vehicle on the roadway.
Park Forest Police Detectives responded to the scene within moments and requested the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigation Unit to respond for crime scene processing.

Additionally, the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force was activated and will be investigating this incident with members of the Park Forest Police Department Investigations Unit.
