Due to inclement weather, the Park Forest Police Department's Unity Day celebration has been cancelled.
There is no reschedule date for the event.
Since its debut in 2016, Unity Day has grown to a community staple in Park Forest however a 60% chance of rain disrupted this year's plans. "While there is never certainty in weather forecasts, it would be irresponsible to host this event and put our residents and personnel in harm's way should the anticipated storms come through," said Park Forest Police Chief Paul Winfrey.
Unity Day held in conjunction with Park Forest's Main Street Nights was slated to be the final offering for this year's outdoor concert series. The Police Department plans to consider additional pop-up events throughout the community later this summer in place of Unity Day.
Unity Day will resume in 2023.
