April 22nd marks the 50th annual Earth Day! Celebrate our planet from home with these updates, ideas, and inspiration from the Village’s Office of Sustainability.
Sustainability and COVID-19
Employing economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable practices can help your household save money, time, and resources - making it easier and more enjoyable for you to stay at home. Check out some ideas here for ways to practice sustainability while social distancing.
Plant a Free Tree for Earth Day!
Come pick up a free tree or two from Park Forest’s Parks Department at 75 Park Street. Trees will be located along the fence line through the month of April or until they are gone. Please check out this video for the tree planting best practices and care instructions.
Want to Start Gardening?
The Sustainability Office has grants available to help you start a community garden at your school, place of worship, workplace, or even on a village-owned vacant lot. Find more information and applications here.
In 2019, Park Forest was one of four cities in the state recognized by the U.S. Green Building Council as a LEED City for our commitment to sustainability. You can read more about our sustainability certifications and awards here.
