On Sunday evening the Park
Forest Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Grant Street. On duty
crews were already committed to responses on double ambulance calls when the
fire occurred. The shift lieutenant, who was the only member left in the
station when the call came in, responded with an engine and auto aid assistance from Matteson, Richton Park and South Chicago Heights.
arrival emergency crews found heavy fire on the lower floor extending up the
exterior of the home from the window to the roof. Rescue is always our top
priority; however, chances of surviving are greatly reduced when fire
conditions are this intense. Thankfully, the residents reported everyone had safely exited the home
and responding firefighters were then able to focus
on extinguishment of the fire.
a fire depends on your ability to know what to
do if a fire strikes your home. Families need to have a plan in order to survive. Take
time to talk about an escape plan so all family
members understand their two ways out and
where the meeting place is outside. Early recognition of a fire is a top
priority. Residents need to assure their smoke alarms are working properly.
Test your alarm today and if your smoke alarm is outdated replace it with a new
life battery alarm.
